A quick and flavorful sesame beef stir fry with broccoli and carrots, perfect for a healthy weeknight dinner or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef sirloin (or flank steak), cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 large carrots, sliced on a diagonal
  • 2 tbsp avocado oil (or olive oil), divided
  • 2 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced (optional but great)
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp honey (or brown sugar)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry)
  • 12 tbsp sesame seeds (white, black, or both)
  • Optional: pinch red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce: In a small bowl whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, and vinegar. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and set aside.
  2. Sear the beef: Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add beef in a single layer and sear 2–3 minutes per side until browned. Remove to a plate.
  3. Cook veggies: Add remaining 1 tbsp oil. Toss in carrots and cook 3–4 minutes. Add broccoli and cook 3–4 more minutes until crisp-tender.
  4. Add aromatics: Stir in garlic (and ginger if using) for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Combine & thicken: Return beef to the pan. Pour in sauce and stir constantly 1–2 minutes until glossy and thickened.
  6. Finish: Sprinkle sesame seeds (and red pepper flakes if desired). Serve hot or portion into meal prep containers.

Notes

  • Use flank steak for a more tender texture.
  • Adjust honey or sugar to taste for sweetness.
  • Store leftovers in airtight containers for up to 3 days.
